What is a “Dirty” Martini anyway?

dirty martini

The term “dirty” when used in conjunction with a martini, is simply the addition of olive brine from a jar of olives. It can be added to taste but is generally ¼ – ½ ounce per drink. If you want a “Filthy” Martini, simply add more brine 😉

The olive brine offers a taste of “umami” which would add a savory quality of saltiness and acidity with a hint of sweetness to your drink.

Dirty Martini

2 ½ ounces of high-quality gin (or vodka if preferred)

½ ounce of dry Vermouth

¼-1/2 ounce of olive juice

Garnish: 1-3 olives.
