Beaujolais Nouveau Day 2018

The holidays are just around the corner which means one of the most iconic holiday wines will soon be arriving in our stores: Beaujolais Nouveau!

Beaujolais Nouveau is scheduled to be sold in our liquor stores on November 15th, meaning you can purchase a bottle in time for your Thanksgiving meal. This wine is surrounded in tradition, with French law requiring that the wine not be released for sale until the third Thursday of November. In France, fans of the wine wait for the clock to strike midnight before uncorking the bottles and trying the latest vintage. This date is historically important because it marks the start of the new vintage, harvest, bottling, and selling of wines in the Beaujolais and Maconnais region of Burgundy. All Beaujolais Nouveau wines are made from the Gamay grape, which results in a fresh, light, and fruity wine.

Unlike most wines, Beaujolais Nouveau should be consumed in the same year in which it was harvested, making it an incredibly young wine, that should be enjoyed right away as it will not develop with age. This lack of aging means that Beaujolais Nouveau has an exceptionally fruity taste which pairs well with almost anything. Beaujolais Noveau should be served slightly chilled at 55 degrees.

While it was originally only available in France, its popularity has spread across the globe and it is now common to find it on Thanksgiving tables across the United States. Its release is highly anticipated every year by wine-drinkers and due to the limited quantities, it usually sells out quickly. This year’s vintage is speculated to be exceptional, so don’t put off purchasing your bottle (or two)!
