Put on some enchanting Italian accordion music, light some candles on a red checkered table cloth and you could seemingly be in a trattoria in Tuscany. Likewise in Germany, the perfect match for pork loin or schnitzel with roasted potatoes is Riesling. Try an estate version for premium quality that is still affordable. In France, bœuf bourguignon in a Paris bistro in the 5th arrondissement (the Latin quarter) would be best accompanied by a red burgundy (which is Pinot Noir).
Some less obvious but great wines to try:
Consider Vacqueyras or Gigondas when buying wines from the Rhone Valley. They will be pricier than Cotes du Rhone, but less so than Chateauneuf-du-Pape and are actually Cru du Rhone which is the same quality level as the acclaimed Chateauneuf! These are very special wines.
Try affordable Gruner Veltliner from Austria for a fresh and vibrant dry white wine alternative. Or perhaps, Garnacha (Grenache) from Spain for a jammy, dense, flavor-packed red that’s great with grilled or roasted meats or a table full of tapas.
